That Face

by Polly Stenham

How do you feel about uncomfortable?  About feeling uncomfortable?  If you enjoy being slightly unnerved, not knowing who exactly to feel for sorry for…or more likely feeling sorry for each character at different times, but not sure how much slack to cut them because they each share in the blame…..this is a night at the theatre for you!

I went to see Manhattan Theatre Club‘s production of  That Face by Polly Stenham.  It  is a portrait of a family in turmoil—so much turmoil that you almost want to look away.  But if this kind of in-your-face portrayal of manipulation and the havoc it can wreak is something you find fascinating, then this production delivers.

But it won’t be an enjoyable night out at the theatre.  Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
